In spring 2011 around 70 young people will gather in Heidelberg for the International Forum of the European Youth Parliament.

In spring 2011 around 70 young people will gather in Heidelberg for the International Forum of the European Youth Parliament.

The participants will discuss current European issues, exchange ideas and experience Europe’s cultural diversity. The highlight of the session, the General Assembly, will be held in the Great Hall of the Old University of Heidelberg. During the General Assembly the delegates will debate their resolutions according to the rules of the European Parliament and experience the factual dispute of different opinions.

Nutrition as a sustainable concept

Facing famine and poverty in the developing world, a high demand for food in newly industrialised countries and the huge amount of wasted food in industrial nations, the participants will focus on finding sustainable solutions to the global food problem. With natural catastrophes, the fear of worldwide famine grows. The trend towards consumption of organic food and vegetarianism in Western countries reflects an increasing awareness of the importance of healthy nutrition. The delegates will discuss the problems of food production, climate change, growth of population and development policy. They will not only have discussions on the topic of food and environment but also get the chance to visit an organic farm. The food provided at the session will mainly be vegetarian and organic.

For further information about the session, please contact the head organiser Angelika Maier.

In October 2010 about 60 participants from all over Europe will gather in Löwenberg for the International Autumn Forum of the European Youth Parliament.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the German unity we will offer the delegates a platform to have a look at the eastward expansion of the EU.

The Forum will mainly take place in the local High School of Löwenberg, where the participants will sleep and work together. The highlight of the session, the General Assembly, will be held in the Schloss und Gut Liebenberg. The teenagers will debate their resolutions according to the rules of the European Parliament and experience the factual dispute of different opinions and views.

20 Years after the Cold War – A review

After the fall of the Iron Curtain in 1989 many East European Countries declared their independence during 1990. The main topic of our session will therefore be Europe’s development since then. We want to focus on European Integration after the EU’s eastward expansion. With the help of this review the participants will create scenarios for Europe’s future in another 20 years. They will concentrate on several social and educational aspects of the European Integration but at the same time map out chances and risks of this development. The main aim is to analyse to what extent the eastward expansion has been successful and what problems still have to be solved. The participants will actively shape Europe’s future – their Europe of the future.
